Trillian Unification Explained

Trillian's unification efforts bring together the features from multiple messengers and combines them into the functionality of Trillian. Some of the unified features we're going to look at in this article are: Basic Messaging, SecureIM, Privacy Settings, File Transfers, Direct Connections, Group Conferences, Display Pictures, Mobile Messaging, Mail Notification, Full Native Status Support, Audio Chat, and Video Chat.

Basic Messaging is the original workhorse of instant messaging. It is Trillian's two-way mechanism that allows you to type messages to your contacts.

SecureIM is the ability for Trillian to encrypt messages between to clients. SecureIM does not authenticate its messages.

Privacy settings include the ability to make your trillian client visible to the network.You can decide which clients to block and who to allow. Privacy also supports notification when a client adds your client to their list.

Trillian's file transfer feature gives you the ability to upload files to your destination client and allows you to download from a source im client.

Direct connection allows trillian to connect directly to another client with a proxy or lookup service.

Group conferencing allows multiple client conversations to show in one window. Each client in the conference can communicate with the others in the conference while viewable to the other clients simultaneously.

Trillian allows the user to display pictures in the client window.

Trillian's mobile messaging allows trillian the ability to engage in IM from a mobile handset using  technologies such as SMS, WAP or GPRS. Check with Trillian to determine which technologies are supported in the trillian mobile messaging environment.

Native status support gives trillian the ability to give status terms based on the client in which it is interacting with.

Audio Chat gives trillian the ability to talk with another client using a microphone and speakers as if it were a telephone.

Video Chat is one-on-one video between two clients using the data from device such as a webcam. It is like video conferencing over chat.

The last point of unification is that these features are supported across multiple IMs such as AIM, MSN, Yahoo and ICQ.
